“No one can suffer loss unless it be his own decision. No one suffers pain except his choice elects this state for him. No one can grieve nor fear nor think him sick unless these are the outcomes that he wants. And no one dies without his own consent. Nothing occurs but represents your wish, and nothing is omitted that you choose. Here is your world, complete in all details. Here is its whole reality for you. And it is only here salvation is.”
This is one of those lessons in which Jesus asks us to look at the darkness with him. It’s much like the “responsibility for sight” section of the Text. It’s a hard lesson, and yet it’s a liberating one as well, because I can decide not to punish myself for unreal sins. As he says, “Truth is true, and nothing else is true,” and the truth is that, with the strength of God in me and in all of us, I can change what I want; I can “elect to change all thoughts that hurt”.
