Keys to this Lesson
Similar to the previous lesson, yet more specific on the emotion that comes up.
Nothing without meaning exists.
We think we perceive something that HAS meaning.
This may arouse anxiety in us, Jesus states.
God and ego “challenge” each other for the empty space to have their meaning put there.
The ego is fearful of the void as it may prove its unreality.
Recognize meaninglessness without fear.
If you are fearful, you will see a world that is full of fear which is not what it truly is. It is meaningless.
3-4 practices for a minute.
Repeat: A meaningless world engenders fear.
Look around, say slowly: I am looking at a meaningless world.
Repeat: A meaningless world engenders fear because I think I am in competition with God.
You may find resistance at this closing statement.
Whatever form your resistance may take, remind yourself that you are really afraid of such a thought because of the “vengeance” of the “enemy” and what we mean here is the ego.
You do not have to believe the statement.
You may think it ridiculous.
Note any overt/covert fear.
First attempt with the cause and effect relationship.
Do not dwell on concluding statement, only use it during practice periods.
Remember to read the lesson as written in A Course in Miracles, please use these Keys as a tool to assist you.
A Note about Resistance
After 13 lessons now, you may be finding some resistance to either the lessons or practicing the lessons. I think that resistance is inevitable. We are here in this world that WE have made and Jesus wants us to TEAR IT DOWN. We don’t want to!! We are KICKING AND SCREAMING all the way! I like the world just the way it is thank you, Jesus. OR do I? If I’m miserable at times, then happy, then sad, then happy, then pissed off, then happy. Is this really a world I want?
Resistance is futile as the Borg from Star Trek would say.
I think we need to be reminded of what Jesus shares in the introduction. He says to not judge the ideas, just apply as directed. We don’t need to know HOW it works, but it WILL work. Just like a salve, apply the salve and in time the wound heals itself. The other idea Jesus shares is whatever our reactions may be USE THEM. Use the very thoughts and resistances and emotions for what he wants us to apply as these lessons continue on.
